Starting out, affiliate marketing is a progression of selling other people’s products while earning a commission in return on all sold products. Now some might ask, Sell other people’s products? Huh! Its simple by taking this approach you never have to have anything of your own to sell, you don’t have to build and carry any inventory, and you never have to be connected with prospective customers. Alternatively, the producing company does all that for you…

Companies will pay people very large commissions for selling their products. For example, when you walk into a cell phone store that sells packages from Verizon, AT&T and Sprint, that store gets commissions from the companies for whatever they sell. The only difference between what they do and what I do is that my affiliate marketing business is all online.

Where can you find products to sell for commissions? There are “affiliate directories” that compile lists of companies ready to offer commissions for whatever you are able to sell. My favorite of these - and the one that programs like The Rich Jerk will teach you to use - is known as Clickbank, and it only sells digital products, or products that you can download. This is beneficial because they are inexpensive to produce, so they offer their affiliates very large commissions. You can earn up to a 75% commission for marketing these type of products. If you sell a $100 product and earn a 75%, well… you can see how your profits can add up pretty darn quickly.

So, how does the process work? When you sign up to promote certain products, you receive a unique link that has a tracking code in it. This code is unique to your account, and it will track if and when any sales are made from your unique affiliate link. You simply drive traffic to that affiliate link, and any sales that result are transferred immediately into your account. Pretty cool, eh?

With some knowledge of how affiliate marketing works, you’ll really get a feel for what any internet wealth program is about. You see a lot of these programs out there, and their main strategy to earn online is affiliate marketing. With a basic knowledge of how it works, you really get a much better idea as to what these programs are all about.

Here it is in a nutshell…

If you look at a newspaper the most important information is always put above whats called the “Fold”  That’s because when browsing or glancing at written material your eyes only see the top portion.  That’s where Sales are made or Lost!

First what is Nexus? Means that a business has a sufficient connection with the taxing State to allow the State to have taxing authority. More at Answers.com

Make no mistake about it this a very BIG DEAL, especially for affiliate marketers!

If you have an affiliate business in one of the State’s that have passed such laws then you have already felt the pinch…

Case in point-lets touch on AMAZON’s associate program. There’s a lot of people out there making a very good living off of promoting and selling Amazon’s products. But if you live in a State that has recently passed a Nexus law or is in the process of doing so, then your going to be out of luck! You see Amazon wants nothing to do with paying taxes for affiliates, even though it really would not be that difficult for them. They feel that having affiliates does not mean that they have a physical presence within that State. Here lies the problem is!  The States disagree, and believe that if your affiliates are conducting business on your companies behalf then you certainly do have a presence!

You see, most States now are struggling with a drop in Federal funding and they need to now get creative. Enter the Politician with a bright idea that they can gain extra revenue from this and it becomes a snowball effect with the Affiliate caught squarely in the crossfire.

What States currently have Nexus Laws on the books?

New York, Connecticut, Maryland, Hawaii, Missouri, Rhode Island, North Carolina and Minnesota.

With that being said lets get back to Amazon…One of the most recent States to ratify was North Carolina. Once that happened, Amazon sent out letters to all affiliates in that State canceling their associate accounts. No More NC affiliates! In one fell swoop thousands of people lost important revenue and the State with its hands out ready to collect, was out as well!

Amazon has taken a hard line here so if your State is in the process of drafting such legislation then you need to be prepared.

So what can you do to protect your Online Business? First you’ll need to set up a company within one of the States that is least likely to pass any Nexus Laws.

Two States you can look at are Delaware and Nevada. Ever notice the mailing address on your credit card statement?  Most companies are incorporated Delaware because there’s no taxes!

Filling out paper work is fairly easy. These days it can be completed long distance… online or by mail. Next you’ll need to have a physical mailing address in that State, this is key.  Set up a mail pickup service and you now have a presence within that State.

Simply reapply to the Amazon Associate Program…once they verify mailing your back in business. Amazon does not care if you actually live in that State!

Most people are just beginning to understand the value of video and how much it can add to your promotions. However, for one reason or another most are just not using video period!

This next generation search engine is code named “Caffeine”

This new internal infrastructure will sit hidden and under the hood. What that means for the average user? Most will not even notice a difference while searching. But for some super searchers (the power group) and developers they may notice the improvements.

You may recall that I for one pointed out a little thing I noticed called “see more results from” text listed just below some sites when searching.  This gives the searcher the ability to see more articles from a particular site…enter the next Gen-Google Search Engine! Bingo!

A Google released response states that- ”

‘it is the first step in a process that will increase indexing speed, accuracy as well as comprehensiveness’

So far the feedback has been mixed from affiliate marketers in general. Some have seen their bread and butter sites move down while other have seen some move up. Its appears that Google may be finally putting a premium on quality content, I for one welcome that change!

Frank Kern is very successful and has been a pioneer in this business for a long time, no doubt about that. As for me I just have not come across anyone who has had much success with his products. So that’s what makes me wonder if he’s just the ultimate “Pitch Man” or does his stuff really work?
